Marien handed me this recipe yesterday (Nov.30, 2012) and said it “Must be put in the family cook book.” So here it is!!! She had tried it recently at a gathering.
Makes 36 bars
BASE Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1 1-oz square unsweetened chocolate
1 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese (reserve 2 oz for frosting)
FILLING Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
2 tbs. flour
1 egg 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup chopped nuts
2 cups minature marshmallows
To prepare Base:
1. Melt together 1-oz. chocolate and 1/2 cup butter
2. Slowly add 1 cup flour, 1 tsp. baking powder, 2 eggs, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla and 3/4 cup chopped nuts.
3. Mix well and spread in greased pan
To prepare Filling:
1. combine 6 oz. cream cheese with 1/4 cup butter, 2 Tbs. flour, 1 egg, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1 6-oz pkg. chocolate chips
1 6-oz. pkg. chocolate chips and 1/4 cup chopped nuts.
2. Spread over base mixture and bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes.
(Prepare frosting while bars are baking; it is added after marshmallows have warmed.)
3. Immediately sprinkle 2 cups miniature marshmallows over top. Return to oven for 2 minutes.
FROSTING
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup milk
1 1-oz. square unsweetened chocolate
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
To prepare Frosting:
1. Over medium heat melt and stir together butter, milk and chocolate.
2. Beat in the powdered sugar and add vanilla.
3. Pour over marshmallows and swirl with knife.
4. Refrigerate until firm.
5. Cut into 36 bars
