3 loaves
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup honey
1 1/2 Tbs. salt
3/4 cup water
4 Tbs. butter, cut in 2 or 3 chunks
3 pkgs. yeast, softened in 3/4 cup warm water
2 beaten eggs
6 cups all-purpose flour
3 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1. In a 2-quart glass bowl, combine the milk, honey, salt, 3/4 cup water, and butter. Warm in microwave until butter is nearly melted. Cool enough for the yeast. Pour into bowl of electric mixer with dough hook.
2. Stir in yeast and egg and mix well.
3. Add half the flour and mix until smooth. Gradually work in remaining flour and beat with dough hook until smooth and elastic.
4. Allow to rise until double in size. Punch down and form 3 loaves.
5. Place loaves in well-greased loaf pans and allow to rise until double.
6. Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Test for doneness by touching top lightly with finger. If it pops back into place, bread is done; if print remains, allow loaf to bake longer. Test again in five minutes.
7. Rub tops of warm bread with butter. Cool, wrap and store.
