Buttermilk Biscuits

12-16 biscuits

2 cups flour, sifted

1/2 tsp salt

4 Tbs. baking powder

1/2 tsp. soda

1/4 cup Crisco

1/4 cup butter

1 cup buttermilk

Bisquick for flouring board

1. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl.

2. Cut in Crisco and butter.

3. Stir in buttermilk until just moistened.

4. Place dough on  board lightly spread with Bisquick; knead about 13 times.  Roll or pat out about 1/2 inch thick.  *Dot with butter.  Cut into rounds and bake on un-greased pan for 12-15 minutes at 450.

*Note in margin of original recipe says to  “dot with butter” but not clearly indicated just where and when to “dot”!
