Annie is allergic to dairy products. If it’s called “creamy”, “dulce de leche”, or “cheesy”, it’s probably not a good idea for her to eat it. Allergy is not the same as intolerance. Lactose intolerance is a condition of lacking the proper enzyme, lactase, in one’s stomach to digest cow’s milk’s lactose. Allergy means one’s body thinks it’s under attack. Both intolerance and allergy have a lot of similar effects on the body, gross and uncomfortable, but the main difference is that a lactose intolerant person can take Lactaid–pills containing lactase enzymes–or their generic brand name and avoid the effects.
